The challenge.

United Way of Great Newark is a cornerstone of community support for over 100 years, needed to modernize their digital presence and marketing strategy to better connect with ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households, volunteers, donors, and partners across their 13 municipalities. With nearly half of local households living as ALICE or below the poverty line, the organization faced the challenge of maintaining its rich legacy while adapting to modern digital engagement requirements to more effectively reach and support these struggling neighbors.

The organization needed a unified marketing approach that could effectively communicate their mission of supporting ALICE households and breaking the cycle of poverty, while simultaneously driving volunteer recruitment, donor engagement, and community participation. The nonprofit needed marketing partners who would work hand-in-hand with their team as one unit, delivering consistent, efficient, and accurate results across all channels to help ALICE families move from survival to stability.

The solution.

Understanding that impact starts with visibility, we developed a plan that would improve UWGN's digital presence while maintaining their trusted community standing. Our approach focused on creating a unified messaging and communications strategy that would engage target audiences across all touchpoints, delivering the right message, to the right user, on the right platform, at the right time.

We began by conducting thorough analyses of their current marketing channels and brand assets, identifying opportunities for enhancement and optimization. This led to the development of a strategic marketing plan that combined inbound, outbound, and earned tactics to generate awareness, engagement, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising success.

Some aspects of the UWGN strategy:

- Website Enhancement & Development

Initial audits identified critical areas for improvement in UWGN's digital presence. The website's quality score was at 74%, presenting a significant opportunity for enhancement. We implemented a complete website overhaul focusing on user experience, technical performance, and storytelling capabilities. By restructuring the navigation, creating dedicated pages for key initiatives, and implementing modern event management technology, we developed a dynamic platform that could effectively showcase UWGN's impact while driving engagement and contributions.

- Event Marketing

To support UWGN's community engagement initiatives, we developed a full-service event marketing approach. This included pre-event promotion strategies, on-site activation, and post-event content distribution. For events, we created marketing packages with digital invitations, promotional materials, and targeted social media campaigns. This integrated marketing strategy helped reshape UWGN's events into powerful storytelling opportunities that strengthened community connections and amplified their mission.

- Social Media Strategy & Management

To amplify UWGN's community presence, we implemented a robust social media management program delivering 15-20 posts per month across key platforms. Our content strategy balanced promotional content with community stories, event coverage, and impact reporting. Through careful planning and execution, we created a consistent stream of engaging content that helped build stronger connections with community members, volunteers, and donors. The strategy included both static and animated assets, ensuring dynamic and engaging content that resonated with various audience segments.

- Printing Materials

Recognizing the importance of physical marketing materials in
community outreach, we established a systematic approach to UWGN's print collateral. We created standardized templates for essential materials including brochures, annual reports, agendas, and program documents, all aligned with global United Way brand standards—ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity across all materials while allowing for efficient updates and customization as needed. By streamlining the production process and maintaining brand consistency, we enabled UWGN to communicate their impact effectively through professional, cohesive printed materials that resonated with donors, volunteers, and community partners.

" Splurge Media has completely recreated our organization's websites to make them more interactive and coherent. On top of redesigning two separate websites that each had their own unique coding, Splure Media remained on top of our marketing needs providing ample social media content, marketing materials, and designs as needed. Whenever we needed something or a problem came up, Splurge Media was able to fix it in a timely fashion. Splurge Media's team always explained what they were doing and why. Splurge Media meets with us weekly to go over social media content, our needs, prioritize tasks, and provide updates. "
